In the fall semester of 2025 I was tasked with creating a piece of furniture with only two critea: It must be 70% wood and use only Joinery and hidden fasteners. I chose to pursue the design of a chaise lounge chair.

Rapid Ideation
Modeling
Above are some scale models I prototyped at 1/6 scale. The purpose of these scale models was to test the feasibility of my drawn designs.
Full-Scale Prototype
Above are photos of my first full scale prototype. This design was flawed in that it was not structurally strong. The main frame piece required laps to be stronger and not break under load. I implemented this change into my final design.
Final Design
For the final design of my chaise lounge, I used CNC routing to manufacture my parts. The main frame piece that was previously structurally weak now consists of four lap joints with dowels and is incredibly strong. For my materials, I used white Ash and white Oak. For the finish I rubbed a teak oil into the wood.
